About

Who We Are
Founded in 1891, the Chemung County SPCA is the oldest non-profit animal welfare organization in our region, and one of the oldest continuously-operating animal welfare organizations in the country.

Our Mission:

To enhance the quality of life for companion animals in Chemung County and surrounding areas by promoting better futures for pets and their people.

Meet Our Staff

Tom

Geroy

Executive Director

Tom has been professionally involved in animal welfare for 20 years, performing in various roles during that time. Most recently, as Executive Director, Tom is focused on preventing overpopulation and implementing a variety of affordable care programs aimed at keeping pets in their homes, with their families, and out of area shelters.

Tom currently shares his life with the ever-entertaining Piper, a shelter alum and total goofball.

Piper

Chief Happiness Officer

Piper came to the SPCA as a puppy and soon found herself being fostered by our executive director. It ended up being a "foster fail" when Tom realized they had adopted each other.

Piper often accompanies Tom to the shelter. You will find her "working" in his office. In her role as CHO, Piper greets visitors, volunteers, and donors with a wagging tail and lean in to be sure you get to pet her.  This alum brings extra cheer to the shelter. Make sure you ask to see her - she'll even pose for a photo with you!

Jon

Jacobus

Director of Programs and Services

Jon has been part of the SPCA team since 2011, serving as shelter manager since 2013 and now as our director of programs and services. In this role, he oversees the smooth and efficient operation of our existing shelter services and affordable-care programs, along with designing new programs to improve the health and quality of life of the pets and people in our region.

Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his best buddy, sweet Miss Brandy.

Stefanie

Brown

Shelter Manager

Stefanie started her animal welfare career at the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA 17 years ago and never looked back. As the Animal Care Manager, Stefanie is extremely dedicated to ensuring that the animal's under her supervision receive top notch care during their stay at the shelter. She enjoys getting to know each animal individually and watching their personalities flourish over time.

Stefanie is owned by her 3 shelter alum dogs -  2 Chihuahua's, Tito and Tequila, and Tucker, an American bully - all of whom she just adores.

Dr. Liz

Wilcox

Staff Veterinarian

Liz has been the consulting veterinarian for the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA for over 6 years. She has worked in private practice and academia, but her heart has been in shelter medicine since veterinary school. Her goal has always been to provide every animal with the best care physically and mentally.

Liz has 3 cats, 1 dog, and a leopard gecko, but always makes room to foster those in need.

Stephanie

Hugg

Stephanie has been with the shelter since 2020. She has a degree in both Business Administration and Accounting.

Emily comes to the world of animal welfare from a background in Social Work - she has always had a passion for helping others. On top of her Social Work experience she was a Multi-Media Marketing Consultant with 7 Mountains Media for a year and half.
