Chemung SPCA Hires Animal Behavior, Training and Outreach Coordinator

5/18/2010 1:00:00 AM

The Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA is pleased to announce that it has hired Leanne Falkingham to be its Animal Behavior, Training and Outreach Manager. Falkingham is no stranger to the organization and was previously employed there as the Shelter Services Manager.

"We are so excited to bring Leanne back to our staff," said Barbara McLean, Executive Director of the Chemung County SPCA. "She brings a great energy to the organization and new programs and services that will greatly benefit our animals, adopters, community and donors, as well as create a new revenue stream for the organization."

In her new role, Falkingham will work with and evaluate the behavioral and emotional health of the animals during their stay at the shelter. She will work daily with shelter animals to prepare them for adoption and make sure they are ready to go into their forever homes. In addition to her duties with shelter animals, she will also be conducting training classes for the general public for a fee that will provide income to the shelter. Due to staff restructuring, this position was made possible without adding to the total number of personnel.

Falkingham has had more than 10 years of experience working in shelters. She started working at the Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Coalition in Houston, Texas and then worked in an animal shelter in South Carolina where she received her background in animal training. She then was employed at the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA as mentioned above. Most recently, she was the Animal Behavior and Training Manager at the SPCA of Tompkins County
