The Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA, Inc. is happy to announce the grand opening of its newly renovated cat and dog adoption rooms. A holiday open house will be held on Friday, Dec. 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. to celebrate these new changes.
"We have been waiting to reveal our new cat and dog adoption rooms because of delays and damages with some of the animal housing," said Barbara McLean, executive director of the Chemung County SPCA. "Finally, we have all the pieces in place and are ready to officially show the public."
The shelter received a grant from the Sweetbay Foundation in 2008 to renovate and redesign the entire cat room. The shelter also received a donation to specifically repaint the dog adoption room. These generous donations allowed the Chemung SPCA to do some badly needed renovations and make the facility more inviting to the public.
The cat room was redesigned with "colony housing," which means the cats live in large, spacious condos with multiple cats. This method of housing is known to lessen illness and stress, leading to happier, healthier cats.
