Pet Food Badly Needed at Chemung County SPCA

10/6/2009 12:00:00 AM

The Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA, Inc. is in dire need of dog and cat food. The organization chose not to renew an existing food contract with a major pet food manufacturer and the organization is now asking the community to help provide the food the animals need. In the past, donations of pet food have been abundant, but now donations are currently down.

"We are asking for any unopened bags of pet food," said Carrie Coley, kennel manager for the Chemung County SPCA. "We can use all types of food: wet dog food, dry dog food, wet cat food, dry cat food and kitten formula."

The shelter is asking for donations not only of pet food, but also of gift cards to Sam's Club. The preferred food of the shelter is the Member's Mark brand and the shelter can use gift cards to buy pet food in bulk. This food has similar ingredients to the brand name food the shelter pets were eating previously.

For more information, or to find out how you can help, please go to the Chemung SPCA's website at www.chemungspca.org and click on the donate tab to see the wish list. You can also call (607) 732-1827.
